lightening sparked a raging fire storm on the Promontory of land separating the two South Eastern arms of the Yellowstone Lake. As I watched the fires spread from the safe distance of Lake Butte Overlook, I could see the flame lengths go 3 to 4 times the height of the 80-100' tree tops! Smoke and flames were turning back in on themselves, creating a true firestorm from within. The flames burned hundreds of acres of dense woods on this day.
