Photographer's Notes:
    Early morning sunlight came rushing into the
    Hayden Valley.  The cool night air brought
    steam rising on the surface of the Yellowstone
    River.  On a narrow finger of land stood a
    nervous cow elk and her young calf.  The calf
    paid close attention to mother's movements as
    she eventually paraded her newborn into the
    near sagebrush to be hidden in the daylight
    hours.  

    Grizzly bears were nearby and would find this
    young elk a delightful meal!
